Training

Strathclyde Youth provides training to it members as a benefit of affiliation.

Youth workers, volunteers and young people can access training on various issues related to youth work.

Over the coming months Strathclyde Youth will set out a menu of training for youth workers to participate in.

Dates, venues and times are flexible to make sure that everyone who wants to attend can.
Strathclyde Youth provide quality training aimed at enhancing the knowledge of youth workers and volunteers across the network. As well as learning new skills, youth workers can come together to learn about what other projects are doing. They can share ideas, projects and activities that have worked well in their clubs

Outcomes

By the end of the training course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Youth Work as a working practice and model
  • Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety issues and requirements for workers in a youth work setting
  • Be equipped to plan, execute and evaluate a youth work project. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the parameters in relation to contact with young people in a youth work setting.

Outcomes:

This 4-hour course is designed for anyone who wishes to gain a basic insight into First Aid. Course content includes:

  • Managing an incident
  • Priorities of First Aid, including primary/secondary survey and recovery position
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Disorders of the airway
  • Disorders of circulation
  • Control of bleeding
  • Burns and scalds

This course is run by British Red Cross

  • Demonstrate an understanding of health and safety practises
  • Identify realistic resource requirements in order to commence project

  • Develop skills to improve the organisation's financial management
  • Increase understanding of financial statements
  • Provide practical worked examples of financial management tools, such as budgets and cashflow projections.

  •  Participants will gain an awareness of the factors which will help an individual in circumstances where conflict arises will include looking at anger management, assertiveness, non-verbal communication, stress and self-esteem

  • Quality training for everyone involved in providing physical activities and sport opportunities for young people 
  • Resource cards and support material for appropriate activities for young people
  • Access route to FREE resource bags. TOPS resource bags contain a variety of games equipment valued at £500 per bag 
  • This workshop will give you the opportunity to try out the resources offered

 

Young People, Peer Education and Health

Outcomes: 

  • Have greater understanding of what peer education means and the different models
  • Feel more able to develop and sustain successful peer education initiatives
  • Have greater knowledge of the policies and procedures needed to support peer education initiatives.
  • Have greater understanding of the practice issues regarding peer education work
  • Have greater awareness of   the different methods   of evaluating peer education work

Young People and Self Esteem             

Outcomes:  

  • Have greater understanding of how to define emotional resilience and identify core attitudes that support resiliency
  • Have greater understanding of what may construct and impact upon self esteem
  • Have greater knowledge of how self esteem affects young people and their behaviour
  • Have greater knowledge of interactive activities that can be used with young people to examine their own self esteem and feel more confident about using these activities

 

Elementary Food Hygiene

Outcomes

  • Have increased knowledge of bacteria, food poisoning and its prevention
  • Have greater understanding of the importance of personal hygiene and the working habits of the food handler
  • Have greater knowledge of the working environment, cleaning practices and food safety legislation
