I am 16 and want to work as a volunteer; will I need a disclosure check?

Yes. Although the Act defines children as those aged under 18, if you are working as a volunteer leader you will need to undergo a disclosure check.

I want to become a volunteer at my local youth club, will I be asked to go through a disclosure check?

Yes. Organisations working with young people have a legal obligation to comply with Protection of Children (Scotland) Act (2003), (POCSA). This means they cannot allow anyone who is on the Disqualified from Working with Youth People List to come into contact with their group. The only way they can determine if a person is on the list is to do a Disclosure check. Therefore most groups will have a policy in place to check all new volunteers and workers.
